  HISTORY
The idea of using salvage timber in building custom homes in Southern California began with a very creative and resourceful contractor in San Diego in the 1940s. Jack would search far and wide for just the right timber to create an authentic feel in the Spanish adobe haciendas he built.  Having worked with him over the years as builders, the founders of Vintage Timberworks, Dennis Roberts and Jeff Husted, acquired the skills and the"spirit" involved in working with old wood and carried on the tradition in many of their own building projects. As time passed they began expanding the use of the material in different forms to various architectural styles ranging from rustic haciendas to contemporary homes. This in turn stimulated an increasing demand for the old wood from other builders and homeowners to the extent that they now focus entirely on supplying vintage forest products.

COST
The cost of recycled lumber will vary with the grade, size, length, quantity, and surface character of the material required and whether the material is delivered in its existing condition or re-manufactured to your specifications. Generally, the cost of recycled lumber and timber in an as is condition, will be more expensive than new lumber of like grade and size. The re-manufacturing process, if required, will add nominally to this cost base to offset the expense involved in cleaning, de-metaling, re-manufacturing, and in the waste generated from re-manufacturing. Grading and fumigation, if required, will also add nominally to the cost. Bulk rate discounts are applied to large orders which utilize the material in an as is condition and are flexible in terms of lengths and sizes acceptable, shipped demolition site direct to job. Please send us your lumber list along with your specifications, and we will provide pricing and availability promptly.
